Welcome!

The Austin Jazz Workshop is a unique project that brings professional jazz musicians directly into the public school classroom to work with young people. Since incorporation as a nonprofit in 1994, the group has received rave reviews from educators, administrators, and kids across central Texas.

Austin Jazz Workshop in the public schools

We believe arts appreciation and involvement deserve to be a top priority in a young person's education. Music is such a powerful, positive force for children. We remain steadfast in our commitment to presenting it and encouraging them to join in the process of making music.

The Austin Jazz Workshop has two primary goals:

  1. To promote awareness of and appreciation for the rich cultural heritage of jazz music in America
  2. To recruit and encourage young people to join band, orchestra, and choir programs available to them at the sixth-grade level. Their involvement in positive school musical organizations gives them something to hang onto through graduation day and beyond.

Much of our support comes from individual donations. There are two ways you can help!
